Create a new page

Contents

Before starting to create a page, you must have defined :

  • the page's position in the sitemap
  • page title (the title will have an impact on the sitemap and web address)
  • have thought about the page's future content.

This information will have an impact on SEO, on the position of the page and its content in the search results of Google and other search engines.

About depth
Try to make all your pages accessible within 3 clicks, so as not to frustrate the visitor. According to the three-click rule, your maximum overall depth should therefore be three.

Page location

Each page takes its place in the site map (page tree).
To create a new page, follow these instructions:

1. Open the Site Map tool ( Home tab)

2. Select the page under which you wish to add your page

3. Click on the New page button ( Page tab).

4. This opens a dialog box.

Choose a short title, and optionally a long title, for your page, then :

  • or click "Next" to unwind the page setup wizard
  • or click on "Finish" to immediately create the new page without settings (i.e. blank).

The rest of the wizard lets you choose the page composition.

Whatever your choice, the page is now created and automatically opened in the center of the application.

The short title you enter will be used on theURL page and in navigation elements (menus, breadcrumb trail, etc.).
You may also enter a long title, which will only be used on the page itself. If empty, the short title will be used.

Page types

There are three types of page:

  • Blank page
A blank page is empty and will not be displayed on the site. It is only a page container.
A link to this type of page will redirect to its first child page.
If the setup wizard is not used, the page created is a blank page.
  • Page with template
A page with template is used to insert content (article, news, photo gallery, etc.) and/or services.
This is the most commonly used type of page.

  • Redirect page
A redirect page is used to redirect to another page.
The redirect page can be an external page (http://....) or an internal page (i.e. a page managed by the Ametys back-office).

The page type can be changed during the life of the page.
