The central zone

This is the main work area, displaying pages and content, as well as tools such as search, dashboard, help, etc.

Each component type is represented by colored tabs:

  • Tools are displayed in blue
  • Pages are displayed in orange
  • Content is displayed in green

Customize the display of tabs in the central area

To open your preferences, click on the Webmaster / user button at the top right of the interface to select My preferences.

In your preferences, you can select the method for managing the tabs in the main area.

Tab organization

Choose the tab organization :

  • Multiple tabs per tool if required: Opens as many tabs as required, so you can have multiple pages and content open at the same time. This is the default option.
  • One tab per color: Only one tab of each color will be open: a blue tab for tools, an orange tab for pages, a green tab for content. This mode is best for keeping the number of open tabs to a minimum.
  • One tab per tool: each tool will open in a different tab, but only an orange tab for pages and a green tab for content.

Memorize open tools

When the browser is restarted, this option lets you define whether previously opened tools are automatically reopened or not.

By default, you will be warned when you have too many tools open, and Ametys will prompt you to reset open tools.

Display mode

Choose the form display mode:

  • Form with tabs: group form fields by tab

  • Linearized form: layout of form fields one after the other

The side zone

This area is used to manipulate predefined tools such as the site map, resource explorer, content history, etc.

The width of the side zone can be adjusted with the mouse. Once your cursor is positioned between the side zone and the main zone, hold down the left mouse button and move the cursor to change the width of the zone as you wish.

Your cursor should be positioned in the purple zone.

The cursor icon will then take the following form to alert you to the possibility of modifying the width of the side zone:

Side zone tabs

This area displays tools only, so all tabs in the area are blue.

The ribbon

This is the command tool area, made up of tabs and buttons. It updates automatically according to the tools opened.

Two ribbon zones are available.

The upper part of the ribbon in purple (tabs)

The lower zone of the ribbon in gray (composed of buttons)

The default ribbon in the demo version has five static tabs:

These tabs are in purple, with the selected tab in dark blue:

The Home tab is selected

Ribbon buttons can be temporarily hidden by double-clicking anywhere in the tab area (purple band). This saves space for users with small screens.

Contextual tabs

The Ribbon features a context-sensitive tab mechanism. These are dynamic tabs which appear and disappear according to the context (selected object, open tools, etc.).
Contextual tabs generally belong to a group which may include several such tabs. For ergonomic reasons, groups and tabs have different colors, but these have no particular meaning.

Opening the Resource Explorer opens a contextual tab called Resources:

Selecting content on a page opens a Page group and selects the Content tab.

Creating a table in content editing mode opens two tabs, Table and Advanced. Note that the Edit tab is also available, allowing the user to return to the content editing menu without leaving the current work on the table.

For further information: essential concepts

In Ametys , we refer to pages, content, services and online publishing.

  • Pages are organized hierarchically using the sitemap tool, the site tree. Pages can contain one or more contents and/or services.
  • Online publishing is Wysiwyg (What you see is what you getmeaning literally, What you see is what you get). The editor lets you modify content.
Edit mode gives you access to the online editor.

  • Visit on line of your content requires validation. All newly created or modified content is in the state of Draft. As long as your content has not been validated, the latest validated version remains visible on the site.

The operating principle is described in detail on page Lifecycle
